Groton to market two former schools for development

Groton — Planning Director Jonathan Reiner said Tuesday the town would begin marketing the former Colonel Ledyard School and former Pleasant Valley Elementary School for development as soon as both are turned over to the town.

The town owns the Colonel Ledyard School at 120 West St. but had leased it to the city for $1 as potential future municipal office space. The city had planned to use it, but timing and budget constraints forced it to halt those plans.

Groton City Mayor Keith Hedrick told a joint meeting of the city and town councils Tuesday the city would clean out remaining items in the building and turn it back over to the town.

Reiner said he asked Superintendent Michael Graner when Pleasant Valley would be turned over to the town and said he'd have an answer shortly.

The school department closed the elementary school at 380 Pleasant Valley Road South at the end of the last school year due to budget cuts.
