    East Lyme Public Schools schedules September open houses

    East Lyme — While the district is on schedule to open the town's three elementary schools on Aug. 28, officials have moved the schools' open houses to September because the buildings won't be open to the public before school starts.

    In the past, open house events were held before school started to introduce elementary students and their parents to the buildings and their classrooms. However, with ongoing construction work, access to the buildings will be limited until just before the first day of school on Aug. 28, according to a release from the district. Minor construction work will be completed through September to finish the project.

    Flanders School, Lillie B. Haynes School and Niantic Center School were part of a yearlong, $37.5 million project to renovate and upgrade the district's elementary buildings. Classrooms and other education spaces were moved around the schools — and, six classes were moved from Flanders School to the Central Office building next door.

    The open house schedule is as follows:

    Flanders School
