    Local roundup: Pagan leads New London girls past Cumberland

    New London - India Pagan had 15 points and 12 rebounds as the New London High School girls' basketball team topped Cumberland, R.I., 70-29, to remain unbeaten at 3-0.

    Jada Lucas added 13 points and five assists for the Whalers, Charee Osborne nine points, 10 rebounds and five steals and Deanna McCarvell nine points, five assists and four steals. New London led 45-15 at halftime.

    AAC honors UConn trio

    • UConn sophomore Amida Brimah earned his first American Athletic Conference player of the week honor after scoring a career-high 40 points in Sunday's 106-85 rout of Coppin State. He went 13-for-13 from the field to set a conference record for most field goals without a miss and hit 14-for-16 from the foul line. He also had a career-best 12 rebounds.

    Brimah's scoring output was two points of the conference single game record. Louisville's Russ Smith had 42 points against Houston last March.

    UConn senior Ryan Boatright and freshman teammate Daniel Hamilton made the AAC weekly honor roll.
