Mystic's Latham earns a pair of ECAC honors for Central Connecticut

Central Connecticut State University freshman Tyler Latham of Mystic was named the ECAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week for the Division I New England Region.

Latham helped the Blue Devils win their second straight Northeast Conference championship this past weekend in Emmitsburg, Md. Latham was third in the javelin with a throw of 191 feet, 3.5 inches, earning six points for the Blue Devils, and was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in a collegiate personal-best of 14.82 seconds to pick up four more points.

Central scored 170.5 points to edge LIU Brooklyn by 9.5 points for the title.

Latham qualified to compete in the javelin at the New England Championship at MIT this weekend and in the hurdles at both the New Englands and the ECAC/IC4A Championship May 15-17.

Latham was The Day’s All-Area Boys’ Track and Field Athlete of the Year and the Gatorade Connecticut Boys’ Track and Field Athlete of the Year as a senior last season at Fitch High School.
