    Local roundup: Gibson leads Tigers to fifth straight win

    Lowell, Mass. — Cam Gibson's grand slam highlighted a six-run second inning as the Connecticut Tigers extended their winning streak to five with an 11-2 win over the Lowell Spinners in a New York-Penn League game on Thursday night.

    Gibson, the son of Detroit Tigers great Kirk Gibson, increased Connecticut's lead from 2-0 to 6-0. Christin Stewart got the scoring started for the Tigers (7-6) with a solo homer in the first inning.

    Brett Pirtle and Stewart drove in two runs each and Tanner Donnels, Tyler Servais and Pirtle each scored twice.

    Tyler Alexander started for the Tigers and pitched four scoreless innings. Alexander allowed one hit with four strikeouts and one walk. Jake Shull (1-0) was the winner, pitching two innings of hitless relief.

    Schooners win

    • Jake Meyers (Nebraska) hit a grand slam in the top of the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie, leading the Mystic Schooners to a 6-2 win over the Plymouth Pilgrims in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game. Ben Ruta (Wagner) was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Meyers was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Mystic (14-6). Plymouth scored twice in the first inning but four Mystic relievers combined for six innings of five-hit relief with seven strikeouts and no walks. Jason Foley (Sacred Heart) was the winner.

    District 10 LL baseball (11-12)

    • Dan Allard pitched a complete game and drove in two runs, leading East Lyme to a 5-2 win over Lyme/Old Lyme. Alex Fraser tripled, singled twice and scored twice, Owen Robbins homered, Ben Klose doubled and Nolan Connolly had two hits for East Lyme. Brady Sheffield singled, doubled and scored twice and Colby Andrews doubled for Lyme/Old Lyme.

    • Ramiro Zavala pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Mystic beat Pawcatuck/North Stonington 4-0. Jeffrey Lalima, Cam McGugan and Jay Bendick had doubles for Mystic and Eathan McCarthy had two hits for Pawcatuck/North Stonington.

    District 10 LL baseball (10-11)

    • Aidan Powers homered and Patrick Flanagan hit a two-run triple, leading Lyme/Old Lyme to a 5-2 win over Pawcatuck. John Almy and Gabe Katwaru also drove in runs for Lyme/Old Lyme and Riley Warecke was the winning pitcher. Wynn Hammond and Nakhi Snyder had two hits each for Pawcatuck.

    District 10 LL softball (9-10)

    • Samantha Money pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and homered and drove in three runs as Ledyard beat East Haddam 11-1. Aaliyah Amidon (three RBI) and Iyana Kirvan (two RBI) scored three runs each for Ledyard.

    Zone VI Senior Legion

    • Sam Gonski's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning capped a doubleheader sweep for Niantic, which beat Danielson 7-3 in the first game and 6-5 in the second game.

    Logan Banker drove in three runs and Matt Przybysz was the winning pitcher in the opener and Mike Morgan, Przybysz, Banker and Gonski had two hits each in the second game for Niantic (10-4). 

    District 6 Babe Ruth (15)

    • Winning pitcher Dominic Patti was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, leading Groton to a 5-3 win over Tri-County in the losers' bracket final. Groton needs to beat undefeated Waterford twice to win the title. Waterford can wrap up a title with a win in Friday's game, which begins at 5:30 p.m., at Pawcatuck.

    Jordan Lowell drove in a run and came on in relief to pitch the seventh, getting the last out on a strikeout to earn a save. Darius Armadore scored twice, Phil Warner doubled and Daniel Mojica drove in a run for Groton.

    • Tri-County beat Montville 12-5 in a losers' bracket game on Wednesday. Tri-County, which had only six hits, capitalized on 13 walks. Jake Plikus was 3-for-3 and Karl Siismets had a double for Montville.

    District 11 LL baseball (11-12)

    • Ryan Trudeau hit a grand slam and Connor Ullrich added a two-run shot as Norwich defeated Willimantic 20-0 in District 11 Little League (11-12) pool play, while Damien Bleau, Griffin Pontbriant and Riley Burke each added doubles.

    SEC 16-18 Babe Ruth

    • Zach Hyde pitched a two-hitter as Tri-County beat East Lyme 11-1 on Wednesday. Hyde struck out seven and walked one. Javier Denizard had a single and two doubles and Jeremiah Chandler drove in three runs for Tri-County (2-0). Justin O'Leary scored for East Lyme (0-4.)

    • Alex Tuneski and Nick Fessenden each hit two-run homers as Johnny Rockets beat Northeast Nine 12-1 on Wednesday night. Walker Cranston doubled and drove in two runs, Tyler Minor had three hits and Josh vincent had two hits and scored twice for Johnny Rockets.
