    Local roundup: St. Thomas More rolls at National Prep Showcase

    New Haven — Omari Spellman had 26 points as 10 rebounds as St. Thomas More beat Fork Union Military Academy 85-70 in the National Prep Showcase on Saturday morning at Albertus Magnus.

    Arkel Lamar-Ager had 11 points and five rebounds and Christian Vital had 17 points and five rebounds for the Chancellors (3-0).

    In other games:

    • UConn-Avery Point lost to Northern Essex, 95-72. Dylan Conley scored 22 points and Aaron Lorenzo had 12 points and seven assists for Avery Point (1-6).

    • Coast Guard Academy lost to Lehman in a nonleague game, 86-76. Kevin Alvarez led Coast Guard with 20 points. Bryce Schroeder scored 15 points, Micah Baldez had 14 points, Luke Daniels scored 10 and Mark Krebs had 11 rebounds for Coast Guard (2-1).

    • Connecticut College lost in the consolation game of its Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Tournament, falling to Newbury 82-80. Lee Messier, who was named to the all-tournament team, led Conn with 27 points. Bo McKinley had 12 points and seven assists and Daniel Janel scored 10 for Conn (0-2).

    Women's basketball

    • Coast Guard lost to host Ithaca in the final of the Ithaca Invitational, 69-65. Meghan Fornaro had 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Jill Bray scored 15 and Torie Sutherland had 12 points for Coast Guard (2-2).

    • Payton Ouimette had 14 points and 16 rebounds to lead Conn College to an 81-69 win over Rutgers-Newark. Kyle Caouette led a balanced attack for the Colonels (2-0) with 16 points while Jenna Lovett added 14, Natalia Baum 13 and Mairead Hynes 11.

    Women's hockey

    • Amherst completed a two-game weekend sweep of Conn College by defeating the Camels 4-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Kate Kohl scored a second period power play goal for the Camels (0-2, 0-2), assisted by Cassie Hunter.

    Men's hockey

    • Trinity took a 3-0 lead and held on to beat Conn College 4-1 in the NESCAC. Dylan Chase scored with Joe Birmingham assisting for Conn (0-1-1, 0-1-1).

    Men's swimming

    • Conn College won three individual events during a tri-meet split with host Middlebury and Tufts. Tufts beat the Camels 159-21 while Conn beat Middlebury 152-128. Conn's wins came from George Tilneac in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.48), Drake Freiberg in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.90) and Alan Pite in the 200 individual medley (1:58.68).

    Women's swimming

    • Conn College's Shannon Cry won a pair of events as the Camels split a tri-meet with host Middlebury and Tufts. The Camels beat Middlebury 152-136 but lost to Tufts 152-142. Cry on the 50-yard freestyle (24.81 seconds) and 100 free (54.39) for Conn, which also picked up a win from Valerie Urban in the 1,000 free (10:35.62) and the 200 freestyle relay team of Cry, Juliette Lee, Charlotte Nixon and Olivia Haskell.

    Women's cross country

    • Conn College junior Ashley Curran finished 140th at the NCAA Division III Championship meet in Winneconne, Wisconsin. Curran finished the 6k course, run in frigid conditions, in 22:37.

    H.S. cross country

    • Mary Madeau, a seventh-grade student running for the Williams School varsity, finished 21st in the New England Prep School All-Division All-Star race at St. Mark's (Mass.) with a time of 20:35.26. Madeau had qualified by finishing seventh in the New England Division IV meet a week earlier at South Kent.

    College wrestling

    • Coast Guard finished eighth in the 18-team Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield College. Chris Sullivan finished third at 157 pounds, going 5-1 on the day. Other top finishers for Coast Guard were Marc Wagner (fourth, 184), Dominick Summers (fifth, 133) and Dan Fiorvanti (sixth, 174).
