    Morgan, Rosa lead the way for Tigers

    Norwich — Joey Morgan singled three times, driving in a run and also scoring one as the Connecticut Tigers defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats 5-2 Wednesday in a New York-Penn League game before 1,698 fans at Dodd Stadium.

    Dylan Rosa doubled and singled with two runs for Connecticut (28-30).

    Connecticut batted around in the third inning, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring four runs, including an error that scored Morgan and Rosa.

    The Tigers later added four runs in the fifth and one in the eighth. In the fifth, Garrett McCain scored on a force out, while Morgan hit an RBI single in the eighth.

    Tri-City (30-30) missed an additional scoring opportunity in the eighth, when Michael Papierski struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning.

    Connecticut right-hander Oswaldo Castillo (2-2) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on just three hits over six innings. Opposing starter Carlos Hiraldo (1-5) took the loss after allowing four runs and six hits over 4.1 innings.

    Drew Carlton pitched 1.1 scoreless innings for his seventh save of the season.

    Connecticut improved to 8-2 against Tri-City this season. The teams play again at 7:05 p.m. Thursday in Norwich.
