Make the Difference: The Arc New London County

WHO: Betty, a single mother with mental health challenges raising her two sons, ages 14 and 10, both of whom are on the autism spectrum.

AGENCY: The Arc New London County

FAMILY SITUATION: Single parenting is never easy, and both of Betty's sons are autistic. Betty struggles to make ends meet for herself and her boys. Betty is responsible for all aspects of the boys' care and focuses her energy on ensuring each child has the supports and services he needs to grow and learn to his full ability. Despite the overwhelming number of appointments with therapists, physicians and behaviorists for herself and the boys, Sunday is family day, even when there is not enough money for a hot meal.

WHAT TO GIVE: For the holidays, Betty and the boys would love gift cards to buy necessities at Target, Walmart and Stop & Shop. The boys also love trucks of any shape and size as well as movies to enjoy as a family on Sundays.

HOW TO DONATE: Please send donations to The Arc New London County, 125 Sachem St., Norwich, CT, 06360, Attn: Sue Gregoire or call (860) 889-4435 ext. 114.
