    Solarize Old Lyme and Lyme announce March activities

    Solarize Lyme and Old Lyme are announcing a slate of March activities for residents, including "Solar Week" from March 22 to March 28.

    There will be solar office hours from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Lyme Public Library, 482 Hamburg Road, Lyme. Residents can talk with Bernie Pelletier of Smart Power about their solar potential.

    A solar tour will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 22. Residents can visit homes and solar sites in Lyme and Old Lyme. A list of stops is available at SolarizeCT.com/Lyme or SolarizeCT.com/OldLyme.

    A teen solar workshop will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25 at the Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library, 2 Library Lane, Old Lyme. During the workshop, Ray Zelek, a local resident and solar installer, will provide a demonstration of the practical science of solar energy for students 10 and up. In addition, a solar crafts event for students 10 and up will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library. Jean Dailey, the chair of the Solarize Old Lyme program will make solar-powered s'mores. Interested parties should call Michelle Descarbo at (860) 434-1634. Registration for both events is limited.

    The final solarize Lyme and Old Lyme workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 28 at Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall, 52 Lyme Street. The workshop is available for residents to drop in at any time to join the Lyme and Old Lyme Solarize Committees and solar installers for presentations on solar power and sustainable energy management. The format will be collaborative discussions. In addition, local car dealers will make their electric vehicles available for inspection.

    Solarize Connecticut is a town- and state-sponsored online community solar marketplace that provides multiple quotes from local installers so residents can compare prices and find the best solar solution for their homes.
