Backus offers diabetes education program

Norwich — The William W. Backus Hospital will host a free community education program, “Winning the Carb Battle,” from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Backus Outpatient Center at 111 Salem Turnpike.

The program, presented by the Backus Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, will offer information about innovative ways to approach carbohydrate challenges including: the role of nutrition in diabetes management; proper carbohydrate balance; putting nutrition guidelines into practice; and using nutrition tools for success. Presenters will be Dr. Socorro Vargas, and Joan Sommers, registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator.
