East Lyme revaluation project to begin in early 2016

East Lyme — The town has hired Vision Government Solutions Inc. to complete its state-mandated statistical revaluation program.

The reassessment project will establish market value as of Oct. 1, 2016, and will be reflected in the tax bills issued in the summer of 2017, according to a news release from the town assessor's office.

The project will begin in early 2016 with the mailing of data forms to all improved residential properties, so property owners can review the current data on their property and make corrections if needed, the release states.

In the spring, data collectors will visit all properties that have open building permits and any properties that are new sales to record exterior measurements and conduct interior inspections.

Data collectors will carry a letter of identification from the assessor’s office, a photo ID badge and have their cars registered with the police department.

The assessor's office asks all property owners and tenants to cooperate with data collectors to ensure that accurate information is used in the revaluation process.

Valuation work will continue throughout the year with notices of the new valuations being mailed to property owners in fall 2016.

Residents will have the option of meeting with Vision staff in East Lyme to review the new, proposed assessments. Values then will be finalized and appear on the 2016 grand list.
