Salem school board to vote to keep Salem School K through 8

Salem — The Board of Education's Long-Range Educational Planning Subcommittee unanimously voted Nov. 16 to present a recommendation to the full board at its Dec. 7 meeting to keep seventh- and eighth-grade students at Salem School.

The board will make a motion to approve the subcommittee's recommendation at Monday's meeting.

An efficiency study conducted by BlumShapiro, a certified public accounting firm, recommended sending seventh- and eighth-graders to East Lyme Middle School.

After presenting the results of the study to various boards, parents and the public, the subcommittee noted that most people did not feel the decision was appropriate for the district at this time.

Currently, Salem students in grades 9 through 12 attend East Lyme High School.

Both districts are working to build a new cooperative agreement to continue the partnership after the 2019 expiration of the current agreement.
