Mystic Aquarium to hold 3rd annual Seal Splash on Jan. 23

Mystic Aquarium will hold its third annual Seal Splash, in which participants plunge into the ocean, at noon Saturday, Jan. 23, at Eastern Point Beach in Groton. All funds raised by participants go to support the aquarium’s Animal Rescue Program.

The aquarium’s animal rescue team provides specialized care for the rehabilitation of stranded and rescued animals with the goal of releasing them back into their natural habitat. Since 1975, the aquarium has responded to more than 1,500 stranded seals, whales, dolphins, porpoises and sea turtles.

The aquarium’s Animal Rescue Program also educates the public about the marine environment and its inhabitants, and works to inspire people to care about the ocean.

Registration is available at mysticaquarium.org. Early registration is available through Wednesday for $20. Splashers who raise more than $125 (including the registration fee) will receive a long-sleeved “Seal Splash” T-shirt. The top fundraiser will win a Mystic Aquarium animal encounter program.
