Sunday: British choral group sings Shakespeare program
In honor of this year's 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, the choral ensemble Stile Antico has created a program of music that reflects elements of his life and work.
This 12-person group from Great Britain will perform "The Touches of Sweet Harmony" Sunday afternoon at the Chorus of Westerly's George Kent Performance Hall.
Among the pieces are some rare surviving settings of Shakespeare's words by Thomas Morley and Robert Johnson, as well as coronation anthems written for Protestant James I, who was Shakespeare's main patron.
Stile Antico, which works without a conductor, will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Kent Hall, 119 High St., Westerly, as part of the Kent Hall Master Series.
Tickets range from $15 to $50; they are free for kids under 18 when they are accompanied by an adult, and student discounts are available.
