Groton to hold public hearing Monday on proposed education budget
Groton — The Groton Board of Education will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Monday in the Groton Senior Center on the proposed $77.7 million education budget for the coming fiscal year.
Superintendent Michael Graner's budget proposal represents an increase of about 1.3 percent over current spending.
The budget includes increases of $499,650 for contractual pay raises for teachers and other staff; $492,410 for tuition for Groton students attending magnet schools elsewhere; and $350,000 for health insurance.
The spending plan would maintain a maximum class size of 20 students per teacher in kindergarten through grade 2 and 25 students per teacher in all other grades.
