Hewett to seek 7th term representing 39th District
New London — State Rep. Ernest Hewett, D-New London, on Tuesday announced he would be seeking his seventh term in office representing the 39th District.
Hewett was first elected to the General Assembly in 2004 following the retirement of former state representative Wade Hyslop. The 59-year-old former Electric Boat welder was a neighborhood organizer before serving three terms as a city councilor, including one term as ceremonial mayor of New London.
Hewett said he has unfinished business in Hartford and wants the chance to continue his efforts to recoup state money from past school building projects and plans to fight for funding promised to the city’s emerging all-magnet school district.
Hewett is married and a father of three children. The 39th District encompasses New London's first and second voting districts.
