New London has new parking director

New London — The City Council on Monday approved the mayor’s appointment of Carey E. Redd II to the newly created position of director of parking.

Redd is the former associate director of the Hartford Parking Authority, and credited not only with increasing revenue but creating a comprehensive on-street parking strategy for the city in 2006.

The strategy included the introduction of multi-space parking meters that accept credit card payments.

Redd will lead the New London Parking Authority’s administration of non-metered and regulated parking spaces, as well as the operation and maintenance of the city-owned Water Street garage and parking lots on Green and Tilley streets.

The city currently contracts with ProPark to manage parking in the city.

Redd will report to Mayor Passero. His $89,000 salary will come from the special enterprise fund connected to parking revenues and not the city's operating budget.

Redd currently is president of the New England Parking Council and a certified administrator of public policy.

The New London Parking Authority can be reached at (860) 443-1775 or visit http://newlondonparking.com.
