    A turn at the books

State Rep. Devin Carney, R-Old Saybrook, visited Mile Creek Elementary in Old Lyme, his alma mater Kathleen E. Goodwin Elementary in Old Saybrook, and Daisy Ingraham Elementary in Westbrook to celebrate National Education Association’s 19th Read Across America Day March 2.

In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, Carney read classic children’s stories and had interactive discussions about his role as a state representative. He also discussed the importance of reading and being kind to one another.

“We were pleased and grateful to have Rep. Carney as a special guest star on our morning broadcast. His willingness to personally convey his belief in the importance of reading was a powerful way to celebrate Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ birthday,” Patricia Downes, principal of Mile Creek, said in a press release.
