    Shad on the move

One hundred American Shad spill from a Norwich Public Utilities tank truck into the Taftville reservoir Monday, May 9, 2016. NPU employees collected the fish at the Greeneville hydropower facility fish lift for the relocation. As part of NPU's permit for operating the hydropower facility they are required to move 10% of the 3000-4000 shad that pass through the fish lift each year to a point above the Taftville and/or Occum dams on the Shetucket River. Today's "trap and truck" operation was the first of this shad migration season. (Sean D. Elliot/The Day)
