More than 100 book lovers, emerging artists and some locals looking to write their own books attended the First Annual Local Authors Fest at the Public Library of New London April 16, which celebrated local authors of various genres.

Each author’s stand was filled with themed artifacts and new copies of their books. Adults were able to meet and mingle with accomplished authors, and children were able to take part in guided crafts and activities as well as have their faces painted by local artist Margarita Hernandez-Maxon. Refreshments were served throughout the event.

Four featured speakers included Nick Checker, author of “Druids and Scratch,” and Adam Shaughnessy, Frida Berrigan and John-Manuel Andriote. Other authors who displayed their works were Ann Haywood Leal, David Reinhart, Debra Ciofi, George Jackson, Juanita Knight Timmons, Karen Anderson, Karen Guzman, Larry Sirpenski, Leslie Karen Hammond, Manji Soni, Nike Desis, Ron Samul, Tricia McAvoy and Judy Ricketts-White.

The library is planning to have another event next year.
