    Backpacks to school

    Volunteers from the Project Outreach student service organization at NFA fill backpacks with school supplies to be distributed to needy students in the Norwich Public Schools Thursday, August 11, 2016. The Backpacks to School program distributes 700 backpacks directly to students through 14 social service agencies in the city as well as to the schools to be distributed as needed during the year. The agencies participating are: Bully Busters, Catholic Charities, Delta Kappa Gamma, Norwich Noon Rotary, Rotary Community Corp. of Norwich, Norwich Human Services, Norwich Free Academy, Salvation Army, St. Vincent DePaul Place and Women's City Club of Norwich. Grants and donations for the backpacks and school supplies were provided by: Eastern CT Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Dime Bank, Eastern Savings Bank, Savings Institute Financial Group Foundation, Rotary Community Corp. of Norwich, Staff/Students/Faculty of NFA, Tantor Media (Tantor Gives), Norwich Bulletin and Norwich city councilor Joanne Philbrick.
