Heart Walk planned for Sept. 25 at Mohegan Reservation

Mohegan — The Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk will take place on Sept. 25, beginning with festivities at 9 a.m. and the walk at 10 a.m. at a new location.

In celebration of the 27th year of the Heart Walk in Eastern Connecticut, the event has moved from Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme to a new location at the Mohegan Reservation and changes its name from Rocky Neck Heart Walk to the Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk, the American Heart Association announced in a news release.

Kevin Brown, chairman of the Mohegan Tribe, is this year's walk chairman. It will include a 3-mile walk, heart-healthy lunch and children's activities. The goal for the event is to raise more than $250,000 to support the mission of the American Heart Association by funding lifesaving research, education and public policy changes to build a healthier community, according to the news release.

For the first time this year, the walk will feature the Kids Heart Challenge, a half-mile course with obstacles designed specifically for kids ages 5 to 12. Every participant will receive a Kids Heart Challenge bandanna upon registration and a finisher medal. Participantion is a $10 donation per child and parents must complete a waiver.
