Mystic Aquarium is scheduled to release a half dozen harbor seal pups on Tuesday that it has nursed back to health after they were abandoned shortly after birth this spring in Maine.
The aquarium's Animal Rescue Team is slated to release the seals at 10 a.m. at Blue Shutters Beach in Charlestown, R.I.
The seals named Jett, Amethyst, Quartz, Obsidian, Amber and Sapphire, were rescued by the Marine Mammals of Maine and then transferred to the aquarium’s Animal Rescue Clinic between April 25 and May 31. The aquarium said the pups, which now weigh between 40 and 55 pounds, are "now healthy and prepared for life at sea."
