Eversource replacing utility poles, wires in Montville

Montville — Eversource said it plans to spend more than $1.6 million here installing equipment that can re-route power and limit the number of customers affected by an outage as well as install new utility poles and electric lines known as “tree wire” that will be able to withstand extreme weather.

The utility company said it is replacing about 85 utility poles and six miles of tree wire along Old Colchester Road, Route 85 and Flanders Road as well as install equipment that can re-route power and limit the number of customers affected by an outage.

An Eversource spokesman said the company’s contractors may briefly shut off power while they replace the poles and wires for safety reasons. Any affected customers will be notified, he said.

The work is scheduled to be finished by November.
