    Fitch High School marching band finishes fourth in national competition

    Groton — The Robert E. Fitch High School Falcon Marching Band finished fourth at the USBands National Championship on Nov. 12 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, behind the first-place band by about one percentage point.

    The Fitch band finished with a score of 95.863 out of 100 possible points, with the first-place band scoring 96.876, according to the USBands website.

    Fitch also won best music among the 12 bands that competed in its class. Bands traveled from Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia to compete in the nationals.

    The Falcons also won the USBands New England Regional Championship preliminaries on Nov. 5 in New Britain. In that competition, the Fitch band won best color guard, best music and best overall effect.
