Peter DeRosa elected as new East Lyme Board of Finance member

East Lyme — The Board of Finance elected Peter DeRosa as a new board member at a special meeting last week. He will fill the remainder of the term vacated by former Chairman Stephen Harney.

DeRosa, a Democrat, is a clinical psychotherapist with a background in management and human services. He said in a phone interview that he is a product of the East Lyme school system and raised in town two daughters, now grown, with his wife.

He said challenges for the board involve balancing the needs of the town with the budget and balancing the needs of various town departments.

"The goal, of course, is to keep taxes low and provide the best quality of services for the residents of the town," DeRosa said, which will take seeing different sides of the issues, making decisions based on all sides and bipartisan work.

The board elected DeRosa in a 3-2 vote, according to meeting minutes.

Harney, a Republican, had resigned last month due to personal and business commitments. His term was set to end in December 2017.

DeRosa said he intends to run for election at the end of the current term.

At last week's meeting, Camille Alberti was elected the board's chairman and Lisa Picarazzi was re-elected as secretary.
