Urban to hold forum Tuesday on what government should pay for

Stonington -- State Rep. Diana Urban, D-North Stonington, will hold the first of several community forums titled “How Much Government Do You Want ?” at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the police station.

“I think this legislative session is going to be extremely challenging, so I really want to get this conversation started about the role of government,” she said in announcing the forums.

She said this year the state will have to come to grips with the numerous questions about what programs and areas government should be involved in and funding.

She said she is asking for input on what areas should be cut and what programs should be kept. In addition she is looking for input on questions such as should the state implement highway tolls, legalize and tax marijuana, give corporations money to stay in Connecticut, pay for new schools, be responsible for caring  for the elderly and making sure everyone has a paycheck large enough to support a family. One issue that is expected to come up is the continued funding of Amistad America.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
