Foxwoods Resort & Casino celebrated its 25th anniversary Wednesday with a bash.

Hundreds of patrons gathered for the event, which included the unveiling, cutting and serving of a 25-tier cake that stood 16 feet tall. Speakers included Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, who praised the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe’s contributions to their families, the casino’s patrons and “the people of the state of Connecticut.”

Rodney Butler, the tribe’s chairman, noted Foxwoods, the first and largest tribal casino in North America, “founded” what’s grown into a $30 billion U.S. industry.

Foxwoods, which also hosted performances by Kesha and Smokey Robinson Wednesday night, intends to celebrate all year long, said Felix Rappaport, the casino’s chief executive officer.
