Heavy rains prompt closure of some Stonington shellfishing areas

Stonington — Heavy rains Tuesday into Wednesday prompted the Shellfish Commission to close some shellfishing areas.
The commission announced Wednesday morning that the following conditional areas are closed to the harvesting of clams, oysters and mussels: Area A, Area B and Outer Quiambaug Cove. They will remain closed for at least seven days.
