Milling project scheduled to begin Monday on Route 161 in East Lyme, Montville

The state Department of Transportation is slated to begin on Monday a milling and resurfacing project on Route 161 (Flanders Road) in East Lyme and Montville, according to a news release.

The project calls for milling and resurfacing 4.66 miles of Route 161, with the milling portion of the project scheduled for Monday, the DOT said. The resurfacing portion is anticipated to be conducted on Monday, Aug. 14, through Thursday, Aug. 24.

During the work, the DOT said drivers can expect lane closures on Route 161 between Route 1 in East Lyme to Route 85 in Montville. The DOT said two local police officers, one traffic controller and signs will guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions," the news release stated. "Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity."
