Concert series raises $13,000 for Stonington music programs, PNC

Stonington -- The Stonington Education Fund raised $13,000 from its free Blue Monday Concert Series that once again was held this summer in Mystic River Park.

The money collected through donations from the crowd who attended the five free concerts will be split between the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center food bank and the Stonington public schools’ music programs to pay for items such as new instruments, sound equipment and student instruction. Those who attended also donated food to the neighborhood center.

This series has been held for the past 14 years and has raised more than $130,000.

This years sponsors included: Chelsea Groton Bank, the Community Foundation of Eastern CT, Gwenmor Marine Contracting, Levine Insurance, Sea Swirl Restaurant, Spicer Mansion, the Valenti Family of Dealerships, Yale New Haven Health, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and the Savings Institute Bank and Trust.

This year’s key volunteers included Stonington High School students Morgan Lestinsky and sisters Grace and Sophia Todisco who managed merchandise sales and concert collections. The SEF plans to continue the concert series in 2018.
