The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has closed the eastern portion of East Lyme's Rocky Neck State Park beach Thursday, along with Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison and Silver Sands State Park in Milford.

Test results showed high bacteria levels at Hammonasset, according to a news release from the department. The water's bacterial levels will be retested Friday and new results will be available Saturday morning, according to the news release.

Two other swim areas — Indian Well State Park in Shelton and Kettletown State Park in Southbury — also are closed due to the presence of toxic blue green algae, and will stay closed until the algae subsides. The swim area at Wadsworth State Park, located in Middlefield and Middletown, also has been closed due to high bacteria levels.
