New London City Council approves free day at Ocean Beach for vets in summer 2018

New London — The City Council approved the establishment of a "Free Day" at Ocean Beach Park, allowing all New London military veterans free access and parking for the day.

This is a proposal brought forward by the New London Veteran Affairs Advisory Committee and embraced by Mayor Michael Passero after several months of planning.

"It's a day we can give our veterans the recognition they deserve; a mere payback to those who have served our country and sacrificed so much to protect our freedom and way of life," Passero said.

"This day will be a great day of celebration where our City, State and Federal officials can take the time to thank our heroes for their service," said Alvin G. Kinsall, chairman of the New London Veteran Affairs Advisory Committee.

The details for this event are incomplete, but it's expected to be held in late summer 2018.
