    Sailor, civilian commended for contributions to Submarine Learning Center in Groton

    Groton — Capt. David A. Roberts, commanding officer of the Submarine Learning Center, recognized two staff members for outstanding professional performance at an awards ceremony and presentation at the center's headquarters. 

    Senior Chief Electronics Technician (Submarines) William R. Daly received a Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Gold Star in lieu of Second Award) while serving as a Submarine On Board Training (SOBT) Project Manager for the Submarine Learning Center from February 2012 to May 2015. 

    Daly was lauded for his performance as he "expertly led the development of 36 interactive multi-media instruction courses worth over $1.5 million." 

    Phillip Driscoll was recognized as Submarine Learning Center Staff Civilian of the First Quarter of 2015.  Roberts noted that Driscoll's "efforts to provide all Submarine On-Board Training (SOBT) materials on the e-library resulted in the entire catalog being made available, significantly enhancing training delivery and benefiting both instructors and students." 

    The center is headquartered in Groton with training sites at fleet concentration areas across 13 zones. It is accountable for all undersea curriculums, training delivery methodologies, and for developing and maintaining professional development continuums for all undersea warfare officers and ratings to include electronics technician (communications and navigation), fire control technician, sonar technician, machinist's mate (auxiliary and weapons), missile technician and all nuclear training ratings.
