    USS Springfield Class Joins the Fleet

    Groton — Seventy-five Sailors of "Class 15340" USS Springfield (SSN-761), graduated from Basic Enlisted Submarine School on July 24.

    Seaman Travis Carel was class honorman with a 95.96 GPA. Carel continues in Information Technician Systems (Submarines) Apprentice, ITS (A) School, training.

    Fireman Apprentice Thomas Tacetta received the Navy Core Values Award for best exemplifying the standards and expectations of a U.S. Navy sailor. Tacetta continues in Basic Mechanical Skills, BMS, training.

    Yeoman 2nd Class John Greene was recipient of the Submarine Heritage Award.

    Fireman Apprentice Ross Sandoval was meritoriously advanced because of his academic performance and joins Tacetta in BMS training.

    Seaman Nathaniel Trovinger, Fireman Apprentice Tyler Trama, Seaman Recruit Michael Torres-Rosado, Hull Mechanic 3rd Class Michael Sori, Seaman Recruit McKenzie Simard, Machinist Mate 1st Class Bernard Nakbounta, Electrician Mate 3rd Class Wesley McDougal, Seaman Justin Lee, Machinist Mate 3rd Class Christopher Koger, Seaman Apprentice Kenneth Harrison, Seaman Apprentice Brandon Harris, Seaman Nathaniel Hansen, Seaman Recruit Matthew Falck, Seaman Guy Deragisch, Yeoman 3rd Class Christopher Chumney, and Seaman Jay Arroyo joined Firemen Apprentice Sandoval as graduates with distinction.

    Basic Enlisted Submarine School is a six-week introduction to the basic theory, construction and operation of nuclear powered submarines. In preparation for an assignment, Sailors receive instruction on shipboard organization, submarine safety and escape procedures.
