FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Authorities say a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper died in a shootout that also killed a bank robbery suspect who police believe fatally shot a motorist earlier in the day.

The shootout erupted in Fond du Lac after the trooper followed the suspect's vehicle about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The man was suspected of robbing a bank in Wausaukee, about 130 miles to the north, around 2 p.m.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says the body of a man in his 60s was found near a running pickup truck along a road east of Wausaukee about an hour after the bank robbery.

Sauve says authorities believe the bank robbery suspect encountered the motorist and shot him.
