Hartford — Democratic leaders of the Connecticut General Assembly say they're close to reaching a two-year budget deal with Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

Senate President Martin Looney said most spending issues have been resolved, but a number of revenue matters remain.

The Democratic budget committees recently voted out budget proposals that restore many of the spending cuts Malloy proposed in his two-year $40 billion budget. They also called for increasing taxes, including imposing sales taxes on various services such as veterinary and accounting.

Looney said the two sides were "not too far apart," but acknowledged closing that last gap can be difficult. Republicans are not part of the talks.

Looney and House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz predicted a vote could happen Monday.

Lawmakers are meeting today. The session ends Wednesday.
