Sentencing day for A-Rod cousin in Florida steroids case

Miami — A cousin of New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez who was the star's longtime personal assistant faces sentencing on federal drug charges stemming from the investigation into steroids provided to athletes through a South Florida clinic.

A Miami federal judge is set to sentence 53-year-old Yuri Sucart on Thursday. Under a plea deal with prosecutors, he faces eight to 14 months in prison.

Seven other people, including former Biogenesis of America clinic owner Anthony Bosch, have previously pleaded guilty and received sentences ranging from probation to four years in prison.

Major League Baseball's investigation into use of banned substances linked to Biogenesis resulted in the suspensions of 14 players, including Rodriguez for all of last season. A-Rod is back with the Yankees this year primarily as designated hitter.
