Power outage at LaGuardia terminal cancels dozens of flights
NEW YORK — A power outage at LaGuardia Airport's Terminal C has caused dozens of flight cancellations.
Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the region's airports, says 78 flights were canceled and five were delayed at the Delta terminal after power went out at 4:30 a.m. Friday.
Coleman says Delta's communication system came back around 9:45 a.m. and flights were expected to follow. Residual delays were expected into late morning or early afternoon.
Delays of about 2 hours have dropped to about 16 minutes.
The outage also affected the jet bridges that lead from the terminal to the airplane. That power was restored at 8:30 a.m.
The outage occurred when a contractor accidentally cut two electric feeders that serve the terminal.
US Airways, which uses the terminal, wasn't affected.
