Connecticut man drowns at Misquamicut Beach in Westerly

WESTERLY — Police say a 33-year-old Connecticut man has drowned at a beach in Westerly.
The Westerly Sun reports that Christopher Ralph Mendez was pulled from the surf late Sunday morning at Misquamicut Beach. Mendez was pronounced dead later at Westerly Hospital.
Police say lifeguards gave the man CPR after he was pulled from the water.
Witnesses told police the man was not breathing when he was pulled out.
Westerly Police Chief Edward St. Clair says witnesses reported the man may have collapsed in shallow water.
