Police: Man dead after Maryland to DC chase, police shootout

Washington — Authorities say a man was killed in a shootout with police after leading officers from Maryland on a pursuit into southeast Washington.

D.C. police spokeswoman Aquita Brown says the man has died. Brown says Monday night's chase came after an armed carjacking.

Police say Prince George's County and Forest Heights police officers chased a car into the city, where a person bailed out and shots were fired. No officers were reported injured.

D.C. police Cmdr. Vendette Parker tells The Washington Post that one or more officers who crossed into the District exchanged gunfire with the suspect. Parker says no D.C. officers fired shots.

Prince George's County police spokesman Lt. Kirk McLean says county police officers were involved and at least one fired a weapon. Forest Heights' police chief did not immediately respond to a phone message seeking comment.
