Jury reaches verdict in Hernandez friend’s murder trial

Fall River, Mass. — A friend of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez has been acquitted of murder but convicted on a lesser charge in the June 2013 shooting death of Odin Lloyd.

Prosecutors say the jury found Ernest Wallace guilty of accessory after the fact to murder in Fall River Superior Court Thursday. He was sentenced to four and a half to seven years in state prison.

Hernandez was convicted of first-degree murder in Lloyd’s slaying and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Lloyd’s body was found in a North Attleborough industrial park, near the Rhode Island border. Lloyd dated the sister of Hernandez’s fiancée.

Prosecutors argued the murder was a “cooperative effort.”

    Wallace denied it.

The Bristol County district attorney says he respects the verdict and he’s pleased Wallace is going to prison.
