UPDATED: I-95 south in Stonington reopens after tractor trailer truck fire cleared

Stonington ― Lanes on Interstate 95 southbound were closed for nearly five hours Wednesday evening after a tractor trailer truck caught fire, state police and state traffic control officials said.

The southbound highway initially was closed entirely at 3:15 p.m. between exits 91 and 90 as emergency crews responded to the truck fire. One lane eventually was opened for travel. All lanes reopened at about 8 p.m., state police at Troop E in Montville said.

State police said the truck was the only vehicle involved, and there was no accident leading up to the fire. No injuries were reported.
