East Lyme – Police have closed a portion of Route 156 in the area of the Niantic Center School after a truck struck and snapped a utility pole.

Wires are across the road and the utility pole is leaning, according to public safety officials.

Route 156 (West Main Street) was closed from Black Point Four Corner to Fairhaven Road. The roadway was closed at 5:30 p.m. and could be closed for several more hours.
