Firefighters extinguish apartment fire on Taugwonk Road in Stonington

Stonington — Firefighters worked for about an hour around noon Saturday to extinguish a fire in a detached apartment in the back of a house at 212 Taugwonk Road. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire could not be immediately determined according to Wequetequock Fire Chief Edward Dennett, who said he believed two people were living in the apartment. The first level of the structure appeared to be a garage and the second floor, the apartment.
The Town of Groton, North Stonington and Ashaway, R.I., fire departments provided mutual aid.
