Norwich — A Norwich doctor turned himself in on a warrant Thursday after an 18-year-old patient alleged he sexually assaulted her.

Dr. Manoj K. Saxena, 44, of Mansfield was charged with second-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree sexual assault.

Police said on March 30 Saxena was acting in his official capacity as a medical doctor for Concentra Urgent Care located at 10 Connecticut Ave. Saxena treated the victim for an undisclosed injury. During the course of that treatment, he allegedly sexually assaulted the victim, police said.

Shawn Mawhiney, spokesman at the William W. Backus Hospital, said Saxena has never been affiliated with the hospital.

Saxena's name also does not appear on a list of affiliated doctors on Lawrence + Memorial Hospital's website

William Gerrish, spokesman at the state Department of Public Health, said the agency is aware of Saxena’s arrest.

"Per state law, we can’t confirm an open investigation," Gerrish said. "Typically, the department reviews such allegations within its jurisdiction relating to a physician’s license."

    Saxena's license is currently active.

He posted a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on May 28.

The Norwich Police Detective Division investigated the incident.
