Man dies in Westerly quarry fall

Westerly — Police say a 28-year-old local man fell up to 100 feet at a quarry in the Bradford section of town early Sunday morning and later died.

At 2 a.m. police say they responded to Armetta Sand & Stone, 271 Church St. for the report of an injured person. There they found the man at the base of an approximately 80- to 100-foot drop. They said the man was suffering from serious injuries and was treated at the scene by members of the Westerly Ambulance Corps and Life Star. He died a short time later.

Police said they interviewed three other people and later released them. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding what they are calling an “apparent fall.” Police did not identify the man pending notification of his family.
