New London police respond to shooting that seriously injured three people

New London — Three people were shot Tuesday night in the vicinity of the Nowhere Café located at 454 Colman St.

Police said at 11:45 p.m. they received a 911 call to report that shots were fired outside the bar.

When police arrived at the scene, a victim was located in the parking lot of the adjacent Aaron's store. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the upper thigh and was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A second victim arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and was transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

A third victim also arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his back and abdominal area and was transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Police said all three shootings appear to be related. The names of the victims are being withheld at this time.

Later Wednesday morning, police recovered evidence in the case at the Carriage House car dealership.

The police department's Uniform Patrol and Investigative Divisions are investigating the shooting.

Diane Cantin-Holmgren, the bar's permittee, said she was cooperating with police and turned over the bar's surveillance video. She said the shooting happened in a parking lot behind her bar and didn't involve her customers.

Police noted that most businesses on Colman Street — with the exception of some drive-thru, fast food restaurants — were closed at the time of the shooting.

According to police records, within the last two years police responded 51 times to 454 Colman St.; 15 of those calls were building checks that police initiated on their own.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have information is asked to call police at (860) 442-4444 or (860) 447-1481. All calls will be kept confidential.
