    UPDATED: East Lyme man sustains serious injuries in motorcycle accident

    East Lyme — A local man was seriously injured when he was struck by a car and ejected from his motorcycle on Flanders Road Tuesday afternoon.

    Police said Edward Hernandez, 70, of 29 Legendary Road, East Lyme, was riding his motorcycle south on Flanders Road when a car driven by Gregory Jackson, 26, of 64 Flanders Road, was exiting his driveway in the northbound direction, drove into the southbound lane and into the path of Hernandez's motorcycle.

    Police said that Hernandez struck the driver's side rear door of Jackson's car, ejecting him from his bike, where he landed on the roadway.

    Police said he was wearing a helmet.

    Police said Hernandez was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious facial, arm and leg injuries. He was later transferred by Life Star helicopter to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

    He was listed in good condition Wednesday morning.

    Jackson was also taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries he sustained when the airbags deployed, police said.

    The accident was reported at 2:37 p.m. The roadway was closed for more than two hours as police investigated.
