Two more teens charged in Norwich shooting

The criminal cases of two additional teens accused of taking part in a gang-related drive-by shooting in Norwich on July 20 have been added to the adult docket in New London Superior Court.

De'Untavius Parker, 16, of 51 Bellevue Place, Unit 3, New London, and Aryel Encarnacion, 17, of 29 Cape Ann Court, New London, were arraigned last week on the charge of accessory to first-degree assault after their cases were transferred from juvenile court due to the serious nature of the charges.

Judge Hillary B. Strackbein set several conditions before releasing the two teens on written promises to return to court later this month.

Norwich Police allege Encarnacion and Parker were with Rah-Mek Roberts, 17, of 93 Depot Road, Uncasville, when he allegedly shot a .22-caliber pistol handgun out the front passenger window of a Cadillac Deville, striking a woman who was standing at Central Avenue and Tenth Street with her boyfriend about 11:40 p.m. on July 20.

The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder that was not life-threatening.

She told police that Roberts, Parker and Encarnacion have a "beef" with her boyfriend and his gang, and that for the previous two months, Parker had been threatening to kill her boyfriend.

Roberts is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a pistol without a permit and illegal discharge of a firearm.

He has been held in lieu of $35,000 since police arrested him last month.

During the investigation, Norwich police said New London school resource officer Max Bertsch identified Roberts, Parker and Encarnacion as active members of the city's "170" gang who were expelled from city schools last year for fighting and other gang-related crimes.

Bertsch said there is a long-standing problem between the "170" gang and the "2" gang out of Norwich.
